Outdoor lighting

The garden and, more broadly, the outdoor spaces are used on three levels after dark:

Outdoor lighting will have a functional and decorative role, for the atmosphere it can create, changing from season to season.

The notion of ecology is important outdoors, because upward light, trees lit for long periods and colours that are too cold.... are not recommended (light pollution, disruption of photosynthesis and wildlife).

Installing a small control system allows you to vary the lighting moods and limit the time it takes to switch on. Technically: all the luminaires comply with the protection ratings for outdoor use, on a watertight electrical installation.

Functional lighting

Finding your way home in the evening, getting your bearings, seeing your bunch of keys, (preparing) food in soft light... These are all situations where you need outdoor lighting to make the space welcoming, legible and comfortable. But there's no need to overdo it - the eye gets used to the dark!

To light a driveway or pathway, you can use wall-mounted lights, low bollards or post-mounted lights if they are further away from the facades.

Sometimes illuminating a wall is more effective than lighting the whole floor!

A small wall light in the entrance area or special lighting on the patio will create a lovely welcoming effect.

Even lighting of the terrace with wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted lights (if pergola/awning) will be useful for a reassuring indoor/outdoor continuity, as well as contributing to the atmosphere on summer evenings.

We use warm colour temperatures (2700K or 3000K), with presence detection where it makes sense.

Ambient lighting

This is combined with exterior lighting that enhances the setting, the atmosphere and the ambience, bringing landscape and architectural features to life in the evening, creating a slightly different picture than during the day, with a touch of poetry.

Illuminating vegetation can give an interesting perspective at night, provide reassurance (no black hole effect), create beautiful shadow effects... Illuminated elements should be chosen sparingly, and their lighting should be limited in time. Warm tones will bring out the autumn colours and cooler tones the spring/summer colours.

Simple small outdoor spotlights, LED strip lights or recessed ground lights can be enough to illuminate vegetation, a sculpture, a stone wall...

Sharing a festive moment on a terrace can also be accompanied by special lighting, a warm, intimate and, why not, colourful atmosphere. Some lights can be installed for the occasion or during the summer season, such as garlands of lights (guinguette style), luminous objects (large baubles, plant pots, etc.), small portable lamps to place on the ground or on the table (battery-operated, some have a built-in loudspeaker).

A body of water or a swimming pool with illuminated water or a luminous object floating on it will look even better!
